Update

So it has been a long time since I updated my blog, not sure how many people actually follow this thing and with facebook and all, I just never seem to get here. The girls are doing great. THey have been at their new daycare for a little over a month now and we love it so far. Shelby talks about her "new school" all the time and she says she likes it better. She is really starting to learn to write letters on her own too. She was coloring the other day and just randomly wrote the letter M and yelled at me to look, we weren't even talking about writing letters or anything she did it on her own. Her speech is coming along, she is doing a lot better but is still very dutchy. I can understand her most of the time but a lot of people can't. Sometimes if you tell her how to say a word sh will say it properly but won't on her own, I think her mind works faster than her mouth. She is very excited about Christmas this year and fully understands Santa and all that goes along with that.

Kelsey is getting big, she goes for her 4 month visit on Friday, my guess is she is around 16 pounds. SHe has turned into a very happy baby, smiles all the time and loves to "talk" to you and she tries to giggle. She still likes her food very much and we have started rice cereal once a day in the evenings. She is starting to get used to it and is doing better about swallowing the food instead of pushing it back out. It has not affected her sleeping...:(. She still wakes up once a night usually, occasionally sleeping all night. She loves her jumparoo and I think she could be a thumb sucker, as soon as I pull her hand out of her mouth, it goes right back in. She actually knaws on her thumb, doesn't really suck it.

Sisters

Hopefully these two will be best friends one day. That is what I hope for anyways. Everyone asks how Shelby is doing adjusting to having a baby around. Luckily she is doing pretty well. She acts occasionally (especially when daddy is gone) to get attention I am sure, but it isn't too bad. She is always checking on "sissy" and wants to see where she is. The only thing that gets a tad bit annoying is that she has to be in her face non stop, she gets really close to her face and wants to touch her a lot. Our peditrician warned us that the second children tend to be sicker than the first, especially if the first is in daycare because they always want to be touching them and getting up in their faces and we know that toddlers have lots of germs! Kelsey is sleeping fairly well. Up every 3-4 hours at night. Eats every 2-3 hours during the day. SHe is starting to stay awake more during the day too. I go back to work November 2nd and both girls will be going to a new daycare together then. We are sad to pull Shelby out of her current daycare but we have no choice.

Kelsey Rae

Kelsey Rae decided to make her appereance a few days before her scheduled c-section. I went into labor rather quickly on Friday, July 31st. Between 9 and 10:00 pm, my contractions went from almost none to 3-5 minutes apart, in a matter of an hour. We got to the hospital around 11:30 and Kelsey was born by c-section at 12:42 am. I was 3cm and 90% effaced when we got to the hospital and the contractions had me crawling up the bed they hurt so bad. I was never so happy to see that spinal! She was 8lbs 6oz and 19 1/2" long. She is a porker and loves to eat!

The dentist and cavities

Shelby recently went for her first dentist appt. Who discovered she had 5 cavities, all in her molors. She has had 4 filled now and one more to go. They will only fill certain areas at a time so that they aren't overwhelmed. So we have had 2 appts and one to go. A lot of people have asked me WHY are they filling baby teeth. For one thing they are in her molars and molars don't fall out typically until age 12-13 or so. Between now and then the cavities could get way worse and cause her lots of pain and you do not want to pull baby teeth out before they are ready. As they are holding a spot for the permanent teeth and if you pull them too early the teeth could shift around and really mess up the spacing for the permanent teeth to come through. I have been told it is common for kids to have cavities in their molars, since there are a lot of crevices and spots for food to get trapped. They used gas to relax her when they did the fillings and we are going to a pediatric dentist, so they have all kinds of tricks to make the visit not so traumatic. I was amazed at how well Shelby did, much better than most adults I know! Such a big girl. You would never even know anything was wrong with her! Right afterwards she told me it bothered her, which is was still numb so I think it just felt weird. I gave her motrin right afterwards and she never said anything again! Amazing how small children handle things like this so much better than adults! Hopefully this will be the last fillings for a long time. We have started using flouride toothpaste (I thought she was too young for this, but apparently not, as they told us it was necessary at this age, even if they don't spit that great). They also suggested using flouride water and/or flouride supplements to promote her healthy permanent teeth which are already there, just under the gums (which we seen on the xrays, pretty cool). We have a well for water so our water does not have flouride and I was buying jugged water. I am now getting some city water from family to use for our drinking water.

I haven't posted any pictures of Shelby in a while so I thought it was about time. Our camera broke so I have been borrowing my parents here and there.

Going swimming. My inlaws have a small pool that we try to get in as much as possible and Shelby LOVES the water.

We had a good 4th of July. Mike took Shelby to see the fireworks in Harristown, he said seh did fine for about 10 minutes and then started complaining that they hurt her ears. I think she might have just been bored.

Shelby also had her tonsils and adenoids removed on June 17th. She did fabulous and a lot better than we had expected. You can already tell a difference in her breathing and she no longer snores.

She is also talking more and more. Still a lot we can't understand but a lot more we can. Sometimes I think her brain works faster than her lips and she just gets to talking too fast! We have officially entered the why phase. She asks "why" in response to everything we say, it is actually kind of funny the way she says it sometimes. She also likes to respond with "okay mommy". THat is something new as well. She can now say her name and the street we live on too and she likes to try and spell her name with the foam letters in the bathtub.

We have about a month till the baby comes! The c-section is scheduled for August 5th and we have to be there by 6am. I am excited to see what this baby looks like, if she looks like Shelby did or if she will look more like me and if she has hair, etc...

The belly expansion!

I am 31 weeks preggo now! Under 2 months to go. My ob doctor told me that my belly looks small but I am measuring 2 weeks ahead. Go figure. Not sure how that happens, but ok. The baby's room is getting painted tomorrow and then hopefully this weekend we can get the furniture assembled and start getting things put away and organized! We have just about everything we "need". We still have to buy a mattress and a changing pad. I started washing all of Shelby's old cloths last weekend so that is done and out of the way. I am starting to get really anxious to be off of work for 3 months. I am excited and ready. Other than that I feel great! I am getting over some major allergy stuff but I think lots of people are right now.

"I like it"

Shelby has recently been saying "I like it" or "I don't like it" a lot lately. She likes to sit down at the table and without even thinking or taking a single bite, look at her food and say "I don't like it". Nice try there girl! Then she will preceed to eat every bite. She likes to try and see what she can get away with. She seen a commercial for the Tinkerbell movie on Disney the other day and pointed to the TV and said "I LIKE IT". So we watched Tinkerbell on Monday and I don't think she has sat that still in front of the TV for that long, ever! I atually got something completely accomplished while she was awake! This morning we were watching our favorite, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Pete was on and she pointed to the TV and said "Pete" and I said, yep that is Pete, and she said "I don't like it"! Goofy girl. We are not doing any speech therapy this summer since she goes to the school now for therapy. She is getting her tonsils shaved on June 17th. I am anxious to see if we see any change in her. If she actually does have sleep apnea then we might see a positive change in her moods. She has also started hitting again when she is mad. She had quit doing this for a long time and now has started again. She has quite the little temper and we are trying to curb it. We pulled out all of her old baby toys and she helped me go through them all. She did grab onto one and refuses to give it up now! I told her that that was sissy's and she said "no, mine"! Uh oh! lol
